Proprietor Eberhard von Kunow

Eberhard von Kunow is one of those rare people who makes you feel like you've known him forever from the moment you meet him. Intelligent humor, a fine sense of irony. He mentions that after finishing school, his older brother once said to him: “I'm going to be a lawyer and you'll remain a farmer. Now he's a diplomat and I'm a wine-grower.” Then he adds that his family actually originated from Westphalia and that their name is not only associated with wine, but also a Dortmund beer. Here is clearly a man of great aplomb. He has an enterprising sparkle in his eyes. First we sample the pleasant, juicy “Gutswein” (house wine), named after his great-grandfather Balduin von Hövel. Naturally, Eberhard von Kunow also has holdings in the Scharzhofberg vineyard, the world-renowned site on a neighboring slope. But his estate, he says, is particularly known for its Oberemmeler Hütte, a site solely owned by the von Hövel estate.
